A broken or dim sign does more than look bad. It tells potential customers that your business might be closed, struggling, or careless about its appearance. Studies consistently show that a well-maintained, brightly lit sign is one of the most effective forms of advertising a local business can have. When your sign goes dark, you are losing customers every hour it stays that way.
At Genius Signs & Lighting Corp, we understand the urgency. That is why we offer fast-response sign repair for businesses across Los Angeles, Orange County, and Riverside County. Our C-45 licensed technicians diagnose the problem on-site, provide an honest assessment of repair versus replacement, and get your sign back to full operation as quickly as possible.
We repair signs that we built and signs that other companies built. It does not matter who made your sign, how old it is, or what type it is. If it is a commercial sign and it needs repair, we can fix it.
LED modules are the most common component to fail in modern illuminated signs. While quality LED modules are rated for 50,000 to 100,000 hours of operation, cheaper modules from overseas manufacturers can fail in as little as 2 to 3 years. Environmental factors like heat buildup inside the sign cabinet, moisture intrusion through deteriorated seals, and power surges from electrical storms can also shorten LED lifespan significantly.
When LEDs fail, you will notice dim spots, color shifts (LEDs turning blue or purple instead of maintaining their original white), flickering, or complete sections going dark. We replace failed LED modules with premium, UL Listed replacements that match the color temperature and brightness of your remaining modules. For signs with widespread LED failure, we often recommend a complete LED retrofit that replaces all modules at once, giving you uniform brightness, improved energy efficiency, and a fresh warranty across the entire sign.
We stock the most common LED module types and color temperatures in our service trucks. For specialty modules or unusual configurations, we source replacements from our established supplier network.
Traditional glass neon signs require specialized repair skills that fewer and fewer sign companies possess. Neon tubes are hand-bent glass filled with gas, and when they crack, leak, or burn out, they need to be repaired by a trained neon bender or replaced with new tubes bent to match the original shape exactly.
Our shop includes a full neon bending station where we fabricate replacement neon tubes to match your existing sign. We can match tube diameter, gas type (neon for reds and warm oranges, argon with mercury for blues, greens, and whites), phosphor coating color, and electrode type. If one section of your neon sign is broken, we replace just that section to match the rest of the sign seamlessly.
For older neon signs where the transformer has failed, we replace the transformer with a modern, properly rated equivalent. For businesses that want to preserve the neon aesthetic but dramatically reduce maintenance requirements, we can convert neon sections to LED neon flex that replicates the look of traditional neon but requires virtually no maintenance and uses a fraction of the energy.
Not every sign problem is visible to the naked eye. Sometimes the sign looks fine physically but will not turn on, flickers intermittently, or trips a circuit breaker when it cycles. These electrical issues require systematic troubleshooting by a licensed technician who understands the unique characteristics of sign electrical systems.
Common electrical issues we diagnose and repair include failed power supplies (the electronic drivers that regulate voltage to LED modules), corroded wire connections caused by moisture intrusion, damaged photocells (the sensors that automatically turn signs on at dusk and off at dawn), faulty timers, tripped GFCI outlets, undersized circuits that cannot handle the sign’s electrical load, and wiring damaged by rodents or water infiltration.
We use professional electrical testing equipment including digital multimeters, clamp meters for measuring current draw without disconnecting wires, and insulation resistance testers to identify compromised wiring. All electrical repairs are performed under our C-45 Electrical Sign Contractor License (#999802), and we document every repair with before-and-after photos and written descriptions for your records and your landlord’s files.
Sign faces — the translucent panels on cabinet signs, light boxes, and some channel letters — deteriorate over time from UV exposure, weather cycling, and occasional impact damage. Yellowed, cracked, or faded face panels make your sign look old and your business look neglected, even if the illumination behind them is working perfectly. A fresh face panel can make an older sign look like new at a fraction of the cost of a complete replacement.
We fabricate replacement face panels in our 10,000 sq ft shop using high-quality acrylic or polycarbonate sheeting. Faces can be produced with applied vinyl graphics, digital print, or routed and backed with translucent material for a more dimensional, three-dimensional appearance. We match the existing sign dimensions exactly, so the replacement face drops into the existing cabinet frame without modification to the sign structure.
High winds, falling debris, vehicle impact, and vandalism can cause sudden sign damage that requires immediate attention. A damaged sign that is hanging loose or has exposed electrical wiring is a genuine safety hazard for pedestrians and passersby. It also creates significant liability exposure for the property owner if someone is injured.
We offer emergency repair service for situations that cannot wait for standard scheduling. This includes making the sign safe immediately — securing loose components, disconnecting power to exposed wiring, removing hanging hazards — then returning to perform the full repair or replacement once materials are fabricated in our shop. We document all damage thoroughly with photographs for your insurance claim and provide detailed repair estimates in the format that insurance adjusters need to process your claim efficiently.
Older fluorescent-illuminated signs use ballasts to regulate power to the tubes. These ballasts degrade over time and can cause audible humming, visible flickering, delayed starts, or complete light failure. We replace failed ballasts with modern electronic equivalents that run cooler, quieter, and more efficiently than the magnetic ballasts originally installed in many older signs.
For neon signs, we replace failed transformers with properly rated modern units that provide consistent voltage to the neon tubes. In many cases, a ballast failure in a fluorescent sign is the right time to consider an LED retrofit. LED modules eliminate the ballast entirely, reduce energy consumption by up to 70 percent, and provide a brighter, more uniform light output with dramatically longer service life.
The most cost-effective approach to sign repair is preventing problems before they cause downtime. Our preventive maintenance programs include scheduled visits where our technician inspects your entire sign package, tests all electrical systems, cleans sign faces and cabinets, checks mounting hardware for looseness or corrosion, and replaces any components showing early signs of failure before they leave you in the dark.
Maintenance contracts include priority scheduling so you skip the queue when you need service. They also include discounted parts pricing, documented service records for code compliance and landlord reporting, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing your signs are being professionally monitored by the same team that built thousands of signs across Southern California.
We customize maintenance programs based on your specific signs and requirements. Whether you have a single storefront sign or a portfolio of commercial properties with dozens of signs across multiple locations, we build a maintenance schedule that keeps everything operating at peak performance while controlling your annual signage costs.
We always give you an honest assessment based on the actual condition of your sign, not what would generate the most revenue for us. If a sign can be repaired cost-effectively and still has years of reliable service life remaining, we will tell you that and recommend the repair. If the sign is so deteriorated that repair costs approach or exceed replacement costs, or if the sign is so old that replacement parts are no longer available, we will tell you that too.
As a general guideline, signs less than 10 years old with sound structural integrity are almost always worth repairing. Signs between 10 and 15 years old require case-by-case evaluation based on the specific issue and the overall condition of the sign. Signs over 15 years old with multiple failing components may be better candidates for replacement, especially when you can take advantage of modern LED technology, improved energy efficiency, and a fresh manufacturer warranty. We present both options with transparent pricing so you can make an informed decision that makes sense for your business.

Call us at (323) 830-6789 and describe what’s wrong — we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s something we can troubleshoot over the phone or if we need to come take a look. Turnaround depends on parts and the nature of the repair.
It depends on the sign’s age, structural condition, and the nature of the damage. If the structure is sound and the issue is limited to lighting or wiring, repair is usually more cost-effective. If the sign has structural corrosion, is over 15 years old, or you are rebranding, replacement may be the better investment. We provide honest assessments and never push replacement when a repair will solve the problem.
