Signs we fabricated come first. We have the shop drawings, LED layouts, and wiring records on file, so service on a Genius-built sign is faster to scope and priority-scheduled. We also service commercial signs built by other companies — channel letter sets, illuminated cabinet signs, pylon and pole signs, and internally lit monument signs — provided the scope meets our $2,000 project minimum. We do not take on residential signs or one-off small repairs.

LED System Service and Module Replacement

LED modules are the most common component to fail in modern illuminated signs. While quality LED modules are rated for 50,000 to 100,000 hours of operation, cheaper modules from overseas manufacturers can fail in as little as 2 to 3 years. Environmental factors like heat buildup inside the sign cabinet, moisture intrusion through deteriorated seals, and power surges from electrical storms can also shorten LED lifespan significantly.

When LEDs fail, you will notice dim spots, color shifts (LEDs turning blue or purple instead of maintaining their original white), flickering, or complete sections going dark. We replace failed LED modules with premium, UL Listed replacements that match the color temperature and brightness of your remaining modules. For signs with widespread LED failure, we often recommend a complete LED retrofit that replaces all modules at once, giving you uniform brightness, improved energy efficiency, and a fresh warranty across the entire sign.

We stock the most common LED module types and color temperatures in our service trucks. For specialty modules or unusual configurations, we source replacements from our established supplier network.

Neon Service on Commercial Installations

Neon inside commercial signs — blade cabinets, open-face neon channel letters, and food-hall tenant programs — requires specialized skills that fewer and fewer sign companies possess. Neon tubes are hand-bent glass filled with gas, and when a section cracks, leaks, or burns out, it needs to be re-bent by a trained neon bender to match the original shape exactly. We provide this service on commercial neon installations, with priority for the neon signs we built.

Our shop includes a full neon bending station where we fabricate replacement sections to match the existing sign. We can match tube diameter, gas type (neon for reds and warm oranges, argon with mercury for blues, greens, and whites), phosphor coating color, and electrode type. If one section of a commercial neon sign is broken, we replace just that section to match the rest of the sign seamlessly. We do not service residential or decor neon pieces.

For older commercial neon signs where the transformer has failed, we replace the transformer with a modern, properly rated equivalent. For businesses that want to preserve the neon aesthetic but dramatically reduce maintenance requirements, we can convert neon sections to LED neon flex that replicates the look of traditional neon but requires virtually no maintenance and uses a fraction of the energy.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Not every sign problem is visible to the naked eye. Sometimes the sign looks fine physically but will not turn on, flickers intermittently, or trips a circuit breaker when it cycles. Common electrical issues we diagnose and repair include failed power supplies (the electronic drivers that regulate voltage to LED modules), corroded wire connections caused by moisture intrusion, damaged photocells (the sensors that automatically turn signs on at dusk and off at dawn), faulty timers, tripped GFCI outlets, undersized circuits that cannot handle the sign’s electrical load, and wiring damaged by rodents or water infiltration.

We use professional electrical testing equipment including digital multimeters, clamp meters for measuring current draw without disconnecting wires, and insulation resistance testers to identify compromised wiring. Face Panel Replacement

We fabricate replacement face panels in our 10,000 sq ft shop using high-quality acrylic or polycarbonate sheeting. Faces can be produced with applied vinyl graphics, digital print, or routed and backed with translucent material for a more dimensional appearance. We match the existing sign dimensions exactly, so the replacement face drops into the existing cabinet frame without modification to the sign structure.

We replace failed ballasts with modern electronic equivalents that run cooler, quieter, and more efficiently than the magnetic ballasts originally installed in many older signs.

For neon signs, we replace failed transformers with properly rated modern units that provide consistent voltage to the neon tubes. In many cases, a ballast failure in a fluorescent sign is the right time to consider an LED retrofit. LED modules eliminate the ballast entirely, reduce energy consumption by up to 70 percent, and provide a brighter, more uniform light output with dramatically longer service life.

When to Repair vs. When to Replace

We always give you an honest assessment based on the actual condition of your sign, not what would generate the most revenue for us. If a sign can be repaired cost-effectively and still has years of reliable service life remaining, we will tell you that and recommend the repair. If the sign is so deteriorated that repair costs approach or exceed replacement costs, or if the sign is so old that replacement parts are no longer available, we will tell you that too.

As a general guideline, signs less than 10 years old with sound structural integrity are almost always worth repairing. Signs between 10 and 15 years old require case-by-case evaluation based on the specific issue and the overall condition of the sign. Signs over 15 years old with multiple failing components may be better candidates for replacement, especially when you can take advantage of modern LED technology, improved energy efficiency, and a fresh manufacturer warranty — or step a static cabinet up to a digital LED message center in the same footprint.
