Cabinet Signs & Light Boxes — Enclosed Illuminated Signage for Los Angeles Storefronts
Weatherproof aluminum cabinets with internal LED arrays, flex-face or rigid polycarbonate panels, and single or double-face configurations. The most cost-effective way to put a large, backlit brand on your storefront, strip mall, gas station canopy, or multi-tenant building. Fabricated in Gardena. Installed across Southern California.
What Are Cabinet Signs?
Single-structure illuminated boxes that deliver the most backlit square footage per dollar of any commercial sign type — ideal when your brand needs to be bright, big, and seen from across a parking lot.
Anatomy of an illuminated cabinet sign. Every cabinet we fabricate is built from four core systems — each engineered for decades of weatherproof service on Southern California storefronts, canopies, and multi-tenant buildings.
Extruded Aluminum Frame
6063-T5 aluminum extrusion channel forms the rigid, corrosion-resistant housing. Welded corners, Mathews-painted finish, engineered for wall or bracket mount.
Flex-Face or Polycarbonate
18 oz tensioned translucent vinyl for seamless large cabinets, or 3–6mm rigid polycarbonate/acrylic for compact signs. Digitally printed with UV-stable inks.
Internal LED Array
Calibrated grid of UL Listed, 12V LED modules on the back panel. Spacing engineered to eliminate hot spots and deliver uniform face brightness day and night.
Weather Gasket
EPDM perimeter gasket between face and frame seals the cabinet against rain, dust, and insects — keeping LEDs dry and protecting the low-voltage driver inside.
Cabinet Sign Pricing in Los Angeles
Case-by-case — we quote firm after a site visit or artwork review.
Pricing is case-by-case. Every cabinet sign project is custom — cabinet size, face material (flex vs polycarbonate), single or double face, mounting — all affect cost. We provide a firm quote after a site visit or artwork review.
Permits are a fixed $1,500 — our flat fee for permit runners, drawings, and city coordination. City fees (plan check, inspection, use permits) are billed at cost with zero markup and paid directly by the client. See Sign Permits for the full policy.
Standard lead time is 2–3 weeks for production after permit approval. Complex fabrication may add time; we tell you upfront.
Single-Face, Double-Face, or Recessed
Three ways to mount an illuminated cabinet. The right choice depends on how your customers approach the building — which way they're looking, how close they get, and whether the sign needs to be seen from one direction or two.
Single-Face Wall Mount
Flush against the storefront fascia or building wall. One translucent face, rear accessible for service. The standard for strip malls, restaurants, and single-tenant retail.
Double-Face Bracket Mount
Cabinet projects perpendicular from the building on a steel bracket. Both faces illuminated — readable from cars approaching in either direction. Ideal for urban storefronts and entry walkways.
Recessed / Inset Cabinet
Cabinet sits flush within a framed opening in the building facade — no projection past the wall plane. Favored for architectural storefronts and landlord-restricted centers where a projecting sign isn't permitted.
From Survey to Switch-On in 4 Steps
Typical lead time is 4–6 weeks from signed proposal to lit cabinet. Permit turnaround varies by city — Gardena, Torrance, and Long Beach run 2–3 weeks; Los Angeles proper is 3–6.
Design & Survey
We visit the site, measure the fascia or mount area, photograph conditions, and confirm landlord criteria. Scaled design proofs and night-view mockups follow within days.
Permits & Electrical Plans
We submit the sign permit, UL electrical drawings, and any landlord approval package. Double-face or oversized cabinets get stamped structural calcs included in the submittal.
Shop Fabrication
Aluminum extrusion is cut and welded, LED modules wired, Mathews paint applied, and the face panel printed. Every cabinet is fully test-lit in our Gardena shop before it ships.
Install & Final Inspection
Our crew mounts the cabinet, lands power to the new disconnect, and calls for the city electrical inspection. You keep the sign; we keep the warranty active.
Six Reasons Business Owners Still Pick Cabinets
Biggest Bang per Dollar
No other sign type delivers as much illuminated square footage per dollar. For maximum brand coverage on a fixed budget, a cabinet is almost always the right call.
Even, Even Light
Because LEDs sit behind a translucent face, the entire sign glows uniformly — no hot spots, no dark corners, no flickering tubes. Day and night the look is consistent.
Swap the Face, Keep the Cabinet
Rebranding, new tenant, or refreshed logo? Pop the face panel, print a new one, re-tension. You reuse the frame and LEDs — a fraction of the cost of a new sign.
Sealed Against Weather
EPDM gaskets, sealed joints, and a Mathews-painted aluminum shell keep rain, dust, and insects out. Your driver stays dry; your LEDs stay bright for a decade-plus.
Low-Power LED Core
Premium 12V modules draw 60–80% less power than the old fluorescent systems they replace. Most Genius cabinets pay for the LED upgrade in utility savings within a few years.
Code-Compliant Out of the Shop
Every cabinet ships with UL Listed components, UL labeled electrical listings, and stamped engineering on any double-face or large assembly. Inspectors sign off the first visit.
Where Cabinet Signs Work Best
Any business that needs a large, bright, weather-proof brand face — especially when budgets make individual channel letters the harder call.
Retail Storefronts
Apparel, salons, convenience, vape, cell phone — cabinet signs are the backbone of small retail. Bright, readable from a parked car, and landlord-friendly.
Strip Malls & Retail Centers
Uniform-size tenant cabinets keep the center consistent while letting each business own its panel. Swappable faces mean re-leasing is fast and inexpensive.
Multi-Tenant Buildings
Stacked directory cabinets inside a single frame — one bright, unified sign with a dedicated face for every occupant. Typical for medical plazas and office campuses.
Gas Station Canopies
Canopy fascia cabinets withstand vibration, wind uplift, and 24/7 duty. Reinforced aluminum frames, weatherproof whips, and vibration-rated LED modules make the difference.
Fast Food & QSR
Exterior brand boxes, drive-thru menu cabinets, and directional signage. Full-color printed faces illuminate beautifully after dark — the rush-hour moment when cabinets earn their keep.
24-Hour Services
Laundromats, auto shops, pharmacies, urgent care. When your business has to be findable at 2am, a lit cabinet is visible from farther away than any non-illuminated option.
