Neon as a Commercial Sign Component
Authentic neon is hand-bent glass tubing filled with a noble gas (neon, argon, or a mixture), energized by a transformer. Nothing in modern lighting produces the same warm, volumetric glow — and we build it the way a licensed sign contractor should: inside an engineered blade cabinet, on the face of open-face neon channel letters, or as a coordinated program across a food hall, usually alongside a primary building sign in LED front-lit channel letters. Anatomy of a neon sign
Every neon sign is a hand-built electrical circuit sealed inside glass. Four components come together — and we bend, pump, and test each one ourselves.

Hand-bent glass tube
Borosilicate tubing heated and shaped by hand on a ribbon burner to match your exact artwork. 8mm–15mm diameter.

Tube is vacuum-pumped and filled with pure noble gas. Neon glows classic warm red-orange; argon + phosphor delivers blues, pinks, whites, and the full color range.

Electrode terminals
Sealed metal electrodes at each end carry current into the gas. High-quality electrodes are the difference between a 5-year sign and a 25-year sign.

Low-voltage transformer
UL Listed electronic transformer steps line voltage up to the 2,000-15,000 volts neon requires to the operating voltage of the tube. Modern units run cool, quiet, and efficient.

Every neon project is custom — tube length, color count, glass vs LED neon, transformer count, mounting, and the rest of the sign package it belongs to — all affect cost. Most neon we build ships as one element of a larger scope: a blade cabinet, a backlit cabinet sign or light box with a neon accent, or a tenant program across several stalls. We provide a firm quote after a site survey and artwork review.

What is the difference between glass neon and LED neon?
Traditional glass neon uses hand-bent glass tubes filled with neon or argon gas that glows when electrified by a high-voltage transformer. It produces a warm, organic glow with depth and character that many people consider the gold standard for neon aesthetics. LED neon uses flexible silicone or PVC tubes embedded with LED chips to mimic the appearance of glass neon. LED neon is lighter, more energy-efficient, shatter-resistant, and less expensive, but some designers feel it lacks the warmth and depth of true glass neon. We fabricate both types and can help you choose based on your budget, application, and aesthetic goals.
Can neon signs be used outdoors?
Yes. Both glass neon and LED neon signs can be designed for outdoor use. Outdoor glass neon signs use weatherproof housings, sealed electrode connections, and UV-resistant coatings to protect the glass tubes from the elements. Outdoor LED neon signs use IP65 or IP67 rated silicone tubes that are inherently waterproof and UV-resistant. Outdoor neon signs require proper electrical connections with GFI protection and may need a sign permit from the city. We build neon signs rated for both interior and exterior applications.

What colors are available for neon signs?
Traditional glass neon offers a wide range of colors. Neon gas produces the classic red-orange glow. Argon gas with mercury produces blue, which can be modified by using colored phosphor coatings on the inside of the glass tubes to produce green, pink, purple, yellow, white, and many other colors. LED neon is available in virtually any color, including RGB color-changing options that can display thousands of colors from a single tube. We can match specific brand colors using either technology.
