Case Study

Rodeo Public Markets.

Custom channel letter signage designed and installed for a bustling public market in Los Angeles. This project required precise coordination between our design team, the building owner, and the city to deliver signage that captures the vibrant energy of the marketplace.

Rodeo Public Markets channel letter sign on building exterior

Project Overview

Rodeo Public Markets is a community-centered food hall and marketplace in Los Angeles that brings together local vendors under one roof. The ownership group needed exterior signage that would be visible from the street, draw foot traffic, and reflect the market's eclectic character.

Genius Signs was brought in to design, fabricate, permit, and install front-lit channel letters for the building's primary facade. The goal was a clean, modern look with high nighttime visibility that would stand out along the busy commercial corridor.

Sign Type & Materials

The channel letters were fabricated from 0.063" aluminum with welded returns, finished with high-durability automotive-grade paint. Each letter was fitted with premium LED modules rated for 50,000+ hours of operation, providing bright, even illumination with minimal energy consumption.

The letters were mounted on a raceway system for a clean appearance and easy electrical maintenance. All components are UL Listed and meet the City of Los Angeles building and electrical codes.

Challenges & Solutions

The primary challenge on this project was the building's facade material and the height of the installation. The existing stucco exterior required careful engineering to ensure the mounting system could support the weight of the channel letters without compromising the building envelope.

Our team worked with a structural engineer to design a custom mounting bracket system that distributed the load across multiple attachment points. We also coordinated with the building's electrical contractor to run a dedicated circuit for the signage, ensuring reliable power delivery and compliance with local codes.

The permit process required coordination between LADBS plan check, the landlord's property management team, and our design team to address comments and revisions. Our in-house permit specialist managed the entire process, keeping the project on track.

Results

The finished channel letters give Rodeo Public Markets a professional, polished presence on the street. The sign is visible from over 200 feet away during the day and commands attention at night with its bright, even LED illumination.

Since installation, the market has reported increased walk-in traffic, and the signage has become a recognizable landmark in the neighborhood. The ownership group was so pleased with the work that they contracted Genius Signs for additional tenant blade signs inside the market.
