Main Chick Hot Chicken front lit channel letter sign on restaurant storefront

Project Overview

Main Chick Hot Chicken is a popular fast-casual restaurant in Los Angeles known for its bold flavors and vibrant branding. When they opened a new location, they needed storefront signage that would match the energy of their brand and stand out in a competitive restaurant corridor.

Genius Signs worked directly with the restaurant's ownership to translate their brand guidelines into custom front lit channel letters. The result is a sign that pops during the day with vivid color and commands attention at night with bright, even LED illumination.

Sign Type & Materials

These front lit channel letters feature 0.063" aluminum construction with 5" deep returns, giving the letters a substantial, three-dimensional presence on the facade. The letter faces are fabricated from 3/16" white acrylic, allowing the LED illumination to shine through evenly.

The exterior paint was custom-matched using the Mathews Paint system to ensure an exact match to the restaurant's brand colors. Each letter contains UL Listed LED modules rated for 50,000+ hours, providing consistent, energy-efficient illumination that draws customers in day and night.

Challenges & Solutions

The biggest challenge on this project was achieving an exact color match for the restaurant's vibrant brand palette. Standard sign paint colors did not match the brand guidelines, so our paint department used the Mathews Paint custom mixing system to dial in the precise hue, saturation, and finish.

We produced physical color samples and sent them to the ownership team for approval before painting the final letters. This extra step ensured the finished sign was an exact match to their brand standards.

The storefront also had limited mounting space, which required us to optimize the letter sizing and spacing to maximize visibility while staying within the landlord's sign criteria and city code requirements.

Results

The finished channel letters give Main Chick Hot Chicken an unmistakable street presence. The bold colors and bright LED illumination make the sign visible from well down the block, drawing in both foot and vehicle traffic.

The restaurant reported a noticeable increase in walk-in customers after the sign was installed, and the ownership team was thrilled with the color accuracy and overall quality. The sign has held up beautifully through sun, rain, and heavy use with zero maintenance issues.
